Meet The Team

Co-founder Modula Mofolo

Modula is a founding member and Managing Partner of SummerPlace Equity Partners and has over 20 years’ experience within the financial services sector. Her previous legal, corporate advisory and private equity experience brings a wealth of knowledge to the SummerPlace team.

She has played a pivotal role and led numerous transactions within the food & beverage, manufacturing, telecommunications & technology, energy, and education sectors.

Modula also has extensive experience within SME financing having overseen the establishment and capitalisation of SME-focused private equity funds and retail financial intermediaries whilst working for a well-known institutional development financier for over 7 years.

Modula has a Masters Degree in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch, an LLB Degree and a BA (Law) Degree from the University of Lesotho.

Co-founder Barbara Grantham

Barbara is a founding member and Director at SummerPlace Equity Partners and has over 10 years’ experience within the financial services sector.

Her previous role as a Deal Maker at the Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”) has given her an in-depth knowledge of structured debt and equity transactions across a diverse range of sectors, including mining, agro processing, metals manufacturing, ICT, chemicals, wood & forestry, textiles & clothing, and construction.

Barbara has also built significant expertise in growth coaching for SMEs over a number of years and holds primary responsibility for the fund’s value addition strategy.

Barbara holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Witwatersrand.

Associate Sive Ntuta

Sive Ntuta is a chartered accountant with experience in corporate finance advisory services as well as auditing fields. He served his articles at Deloitte in the general audit division, involved in the audits of manufacturing, software and vehicle sales businesses.

He spent almost 2 years at EY working in the transactional diligence teams and was exposed to various sell-side transactions in this role. He holds a B.Com in Accounting Sciences and a PGDip. in the Theory of Accountancy both from The University of the Witwatersrand.

Kameshan Chetty

Investment committee Kameshan Chetty

Kam is an independent member of the Investment Committee of SummerPlace Equity Partners, having over 15 years of experience within private equity and investment banking.

He is currently an Executive Director at Thesele Group where he is responsible for the firm’s investment strategy. Prior to that he was a Principal at Ethos Private Equity focussing on deal origination and execution. Kam has served as a director on a number of boards providing strategic direction and oversight.

He brings with him a wealth of experience having been involved in all aspects of private equity and plays an active role as an investment committee member.

His qualifications include BCom (Accounting) (Summa cum laude) and BCom (Hon) degrees from the University of Kwazulu Natal and is a qualified CA(SA).

Investment committee Sylvester Albanie

Sylvester Albanie is an experienced investment professional with expertise in start-ups, SMEs, property, mid-market transactions, and pension fund trusteeship. He also has experience in M&A and disposals in the listed space. Sylvester serves on the Investment Committee of the 27Four Venture Capital Fund (Nebula Fund) and is a Non-Executive Director on the Boland Cricket Board.

His educational background includes an MCom (Finance) from the University of Cape Town, an MBA from Wits Business School, a BCom Hons in Finance from the University of Cape Town, a BCom Hons in Information Systems, and a BCom in Computer Science – both from the University of the Western Cape.

In his career, Sylvester has held significant positions at Khulisa Investment Partners, Hlayisani Capital, and Novus Holdings Limited. He has extensive skills in analysis, due diligence, modeling, valuations, and transaction restructuring. Sylvester’s achievements include receiving awards for excellent performance.

Thandie Mashego

Investment committee Thandie Mashego

Thandie is a member of the SummerPlace Equity Partners Investment Committee and has over 23 years’ experience within the financial services sector.

Through her previous roles as a Senior Transactor and Post Investment Manager at the Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”), CFO at The Vantage Capital Group, and CFO and Executive Director at WDB Investment Holdings, Thandie has accumulated a wealth of knowledge.

Her diverse experience within the private equity and investments space from corporate finance, deal structuring, through to risk management and compliance makes her an invaluable member of the SummerPlace team.

Thandie holds a Masters Degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) in Accounting from the University of KwaZulu Natal.

She completed her articles at KPMG and Transnet Group Limited.
